Senate Backs Bill Protecting Teens on Abortion, Upholds Parental Involvement
Washington, DC (www.LifeNews.com  ) -- The Senate voted 65-34 to approve a measure that would help uphold state parental notification and consent laws that allow parents to help their teenage daughters avoid abortions. The Child Custody Protection Act makes it a crime for anyone other than a teenage girl's parents to take her out of state for an abortion. Boyfriends, their parents or abortion facility staff have made it a practice of taking teens to other states for secret abortions. Currently, abortion businesses located in cities that neighbor states with parental involvement laws advertise that abortions can be done without parental knowledge. But the bill would help stop that practice. "In most schools across the country our children cannot go on a field trip, take part in school activities or participate in sex education without a signed permission slip. An underage child cannot even receive mild medication, such as aspirin, unless the school nurse has a signed release form," pro-life Sen. John Ensign, who is the lead sponsor of the bill, explained. "Nothing, however, prevents this same child from being taken across state lines, in direct disobedience of state laws, for the purpose of undergoing a life-altering abortion,” Ensign, a Republican from Nevada, said during remarks on the Senate floor. 06/19/2006 Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Supreme Court on Monday added a second Bush administration appeal of a federal appeals court ruling on partial-birth abortions to its docket. That means the nation's high court will hear two appeals related to the partial-birth abortion ban when it considers the gruesome abortion procedure this fall.  The cases are Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood, 05-1382, and Gonzales v. Carhart, 05-380.

    Prayer to End Abortion

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
    Today I commit myself
    Never to be silent,
    Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all,
    Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

  • First Book Published by Pope Emphasizes that the Fight against Legal Abortion Must Continue.

VATICAN CITY, June 22, 2005 – In his first book published since his election as Pope, Benedict XVI rejects the suggestion that the Church has given up its fight for the right to life of the unborn, instead emphasizing that “There is no such thing as ‘small murders.’”

“Respect for every single life is an essential condition for anything worthy of being called social life,” he wrote, as reported by Reuters news. The book, The Europe of Benedict, in the Crisis of Cultures – only available in Italian – is a compilation of three sermons delivered between 1992 and April 2005 by the Pope while he was still Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

“Why don't we resign ourselves to the fact that we lost [the abortion] battle and dedicate our energies instead to projects where we can find greater social consensus?” Pope Benedict XVI asks rhetorically. “Recognising the sacred nature of human life and its inviolability without any exceptions is not a small problem or something that can be considered part of the pluralism of opinions in modern society,” he answers.

The Holy Father also questions why modern society is repulsed by the thought of infanticide, “while becoming virtually insensitive to abortion. Maybe because in abortion you don't see the face of who will be condemned and never see the light,” he wrote.

By allowing state-sanctioned execution of the unborn, “you become blind to the right of life of another, the youngest and weakest who doesn't have a voice,” he wrote.    Source: www.Annointed.net

The abortion debate that wasn't - Under the radar, pregnancies increasingly are being terminated when fetuses are prenatally diagnosed with disabilities  - By GEORGE NEUMAYR GUEST COLUMNIST

Each year in America fewer and fewer disabled infants are born. The reason is eugenic abortion. Doctors and their patients use prenatal technology to screen unborn children for disabilities, then they use that information to abort a high percentage of them. Without much scrutiny or debate, a eugenics designed to weed out the disabled has become commonplace.

During a spina bifida corrective procedure at twenty-one weeks in utero, Samuel thrusts his tiny hand out of the surgical opening of his mother's uterus. As the doctor lifts his hand, Samuel reacts to the touch and squeezes the doctor's finger. As if testing for strength, the doctor shakes the tiny fist. Samuel held firm. At that moment, I took this "Fetal Hand Grasp" photo. As a photojournalist, my job is to tell stories through pictures. The experience of taking this photograph has had a profound effect on me, and I'm proud to share this moment with you. Michael Clancy  Click here for the story of this photo .

  • STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT  - March 13, 2003
Partial-birth abortion is an abhorrent procedure that offends human dignity, and I commend the Senate for passing legislation to ban it.  Today's action is an important step toward building a culture of life in America.  I look forward

to the House passing legislation and working with the Senate to resolve any differences so that I can sign legislation banning partial-birth abortion into law.
