Brownback Denounces Iranian President for U.S. Visit
Ahmadinejad should be held
accountable for
anti-Israel statements and human-rights abuses
U.S. Senator Sam Brownback, Republican candidate for president, denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to the U.S., saying the dictator should be held accountable for Iran's human-rights violations and his statements calling for the destruction of Israel.
"Ahmadinejad and his dictatorship stand in stark contrast to the values of freedom and liberty that define America," said Senator Brownback. "Ahmadinejad should know that Americans are united in their opposition to Iran's appalling record oppressing women, violating its citizen's most basic human rights, aiding terrorists in Iraq and opposing Israel's right to exist. As he visits the U.S. and sees first-hand the virtues of our prosperous and free society, Ahmadinejad should remember that he stands on the soil of the world's most ardent defender of Israel. Even the right of freedom of speech that Ahmadinejad has enjoyed during his visit to America is something the regime in Tehran denies to its own citizens."
