IOWA CONGRESSMAN STEVE KING DECLARES IOWA NATIVE JOHNNY CARSON

"IOWA'S FAVORITE SON"

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve King today joined colleagues to co-sponsor a resolution honoring the career and philanthropic contributions of Johnny Carson in the U.S. House of Representatives. In a memorial speech to the House chamber, King declared Carson "Iowa's favorite son."

Carson, born in Corning, in southwestern Iowa, died Sunday of complications with emphysema. He was 79. He continued to make generous donations to the area and supported arts and performance in the rural communities.

"Johnny Carson never forgot his Iowa roots," said King. "His generosity through the John W. Carson Foundation will long be remembered in Iowa. No comic has been able to duplicate his quick wit and comfortable feel that he projected into living rooms across America every night."

"Johnny Carson was a small-town country boy who took his charm and ease to entertain the rest of the world. He will be missed," added King.
