Iowa Christian Alliance Calls for Associated Press and Des Moines Register Retraction
<Des Moines, Iowa> Statement from Steve Scheffler, President, Iowa Christian Alliance.
"I was astonished to read the Associated Press story reported in the February 28th edition of the Des Moines Register that stated that Matt Whitaker had acted as the Master of Ceremonies for our organization's 2007 Spring Kick-Off. It would be nice if Iowa reporters would start attending our events; then they might actually know what happened," stated Scheffler.
Matt Whitaker was scheduled to be the MC for the Legislative Kick-Off until someone in the media alerted Americans United for Separation and State, a Far Left group. "What ensued after this alert, I do not know," stated Scheffler. "All I know is that the Justice Department had approved of Matt Whitaker's appearance, and then he was told that he could no longer act as the MC. What a bizarre situation: a person is denied their First Amendment right of free speech because they are a Christian and then the Des Moines Register and Associated Press reports on a happening at the event that did not take place!"
"We are calling today for a retraction from the Associated Press and the Des Moines Register for their erroneous report of our February 27th event. In addition, we are asking for an apology from the Associated Press for having such a strange and biased reaction to our event's MC that their actions caused a disruption in our event. It is a sad day in America when the press misrepresents the facts and that is exactly what happened in this situation", concluded Scheffler.
