Veterans Trust Fund
Q: What is the Veterans Trust Fund?
A: The Veterans Trust Fund was created in 2003 to aid Iowa’s 266,000 veterans, their spouses and dependents. During the 2006 session, lawmakers approved another $4.5 million for the trust fund. The money is used for a variety of veterans’ services such as job training, college tuition and nursing facility care.
Iowans can contribute to the fund by checking the Veterans Trust Fund checkoff on their 2006 state tax return. Lawmakers created the trust fund checkoff this year. It allows taxpayers to donate $1 or more to support veterans programs and services.
