By now you may have heard that I will announce my candidacy for President of the United States of America this Thursday, September 6th.  Six months ago, I started talking about the issues that are important to our fellow Americans to "test the waters."  In this time, I've kept up a conversation with men and women; Republicans, Democrats and Independents; young and old;  and people from all corners of our great country.  What I've concluded, with your help, is that  the waters seem pretty warm everywhere I go. You've been a big part of the effort so far,  and I'd like to thank you for that.
 
I believe there are millions of Americans like you and me who know our security and prosperity are at risk if we don't address the challenges of our time:  the threat of Islamic radicalism; spending that will bankrupt the next generation; and a government that can't seem to get the most basic responsibilities right for its citize ns. The response that we've received makes me confident that we have an opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the country, and take on these challenges the way every generation of Americans has faced the challenges of its time - with unity, determination and a belief that we will come out on the winning side.
